At the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, Nigerian singer Burna Boy presented the Socrates Award to Arsenal player Bukayo Saka. Prior to the award, Burna Boy spoke about his football academy in Nigeria, which he established a few years ago to support football development in his home country. He expressed his hope that one day, a player from his nation would receive an award at the prestigious ceremony.
Burna Boy then presented Saka with the award, recognizing the young midfielder for his charitable work through BigShoe, an organization providing medical assistance to children in need. The Socrates Award, established in 2022 by France Football and Peace and Sport, honors footballers who utilize their influence and resources to make a positive impact in their communities. Previous recipients include Sadio Mané, Vinícius Júnior, and Jenni Hermoso.
