Two persons arrested in Ranipet for stealing two-wheelers

The police intercepted the duo during a surprise vehicle check

Thimiri police arrested two men, M. Dhanasekaran, 48, and R. Arumugam, 42, in Ranipet on Sunday for stealing two-wheelers in Vellore, Ranipet, and Tiruvannamalai districts. The duo were residents of Ranipet. The police recovered 12 stolen two-wheelers from them.

The arrested men were initially identified during a surprise vehicle check. The police stopped them in a two-wheeler and could not produce valid documents for the vehicle. They were brought to the police station for questioning.

According to the initial inquiry, the pair targeted parked two-wheelers at temple festivals, hospitals, banks, markets, and government offices. They worked odd jobs before committing the thefts. The police analysed CCTV footage from routes where the two-wheelers were stolen at public events. They found that the duo stole vehicles hastily parked by their owners in public places.

The stolen two-wheelers were stored in a godown before being sold at cheap rates, mostly to agricultural workers and illegal arrack sellers in adjoining districts. Each vehicle was sold for between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000. A case was registered against the accused, and they were subsequently lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. An ongoing probe is being conducted into the case.
