On Saturday’s episode of “Weekend Update” on “Saturday Night Live UK,” hosts Paddy Young and Ania Magliano made jokes about allegations that Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, allegedly keeps child abuse images in his home. Young said the allegations simply indicate Meghan’s latest attempt to gain favorability in the U.K., while Magliano jokingly suggested that if the allegations are true and Markle’s father is a pedophile, there’s a "genuine chance" she could be considered a real royal.
According to reports, Markle’s estranged father, Thomas Markle Jr., is under investigation following claims made by his son alleging that he kept child abuse imagery in their shared home in the Philippines. Thomas Markle Jr. expressed horror at the discovered content and reported his father to local police. In a statement, Meghan Markle herself said she first learned of the "disturbing" allegations in 2018 after a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and the Royalty and Specialist Protection division, which assured her the allegations were being investigated.
She described the recent news as deeply distressing and expressed her thoughts towards any children who may have been harmed.
