Selangor Sultan rebukes Tabung Haji mismanagement, says politicians must serve rakyat

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has voiced his dissatisfaction with the mismanagement of Tabung Haji, emphasizing the need for accountability and responsibility in managing funds meant for religious purposes. The Sultan highlighted that Tabung Haji was established to assist Malaysian Muslims in saving for their pilgrimage to Makkah, and expressed his disapproval over any misuse of these funds.

He stressed that the same principles of accountability and responsibility should apply to places of worship of all faiths and orphanages. The Sultan also urged Selangor's politicians to prioritize serving the people, promoting economic growth, and preserving unity to maintain the state's leadership position in the country. He expressed frustration with excessive and unproductive political maneuvering.

The Sultan emphasized that politics should never exploit race and religion or involve the royalty in political disputes. He affirmed that Selangor's strength lies in its diverse and inclusive society, consisting of different races, religions, and cultures, who have coexisted peacefully for generations. The Sultan urged politicians to refrain from making sensitive remarks that could harm others' feelings and to exercise caution before speaking.

He warned that irresponsible statements on social media could have severe consequences, inflaming emotions, deepening mistrust, and creating unnecessary tensions among communities. The Sultan highlighted Selangor's success and its appeal to investors due to its peace, forward-looking perspective, and opportunities for young people.

He advised all political leaders, irrespective of their party affiliation, to prioritize the well-being of the people above political interests, uphold the Federal Constitution, respect Islam as the state religion, safeguard the rights of other religions, and preserve the moderation that has long been the foundation of Selangor.
