BUTTERWORTH, October 25 — Following several hours of heavy rain overnight, flash floods struck various regions in Penang, submerging houses in Taman Cantek and Jalan Jelawat areas. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department received a 12.24am emergency call and dispatched personnel to the affected locations. According to John Sagun Francis, the department's assistant director of operations, the flash floods in Taman Cantek submerged 20 houses, with water levels reaching 0.3 metres (one foot) due to heavy rain and rising water levels in a nearby drain.
The flooding was under control by 1.10am, and the operation was concluded. Similar flooding was reported in Jalan Jelawat, Seberang Jaya, and surrounding residential areas, with water levels also estimated at 0.3 metres caused by persistent heavy rain and increased water levels in adjacent drains.
