From Israel to Camp Nou: Israeli teenager Orian Goren named to Barcelona squad for El Clasico
Israeli midfielder Orian Goren, 17, makes history with a Barcelona El Clasico call-up as Hansi Flick shows growing faith in the young prospect.
Israeli teenager soccer player Orian Goren, 17, has been officially named to Barcelona's squad for Sunday's highly anticipated El Clasico match against Real Madrid, marking the first time an Israeli player has been included in a squad for such an important club fixture. This selection is primarily due to Dani Olmo's injury, which is expected to sideline the Spanish midfielder for several weeks.
Coach Hansi Flick, who has previously given Goren several opportunities in preseason matches and first-team training sessions, has expressed confidence in the promising Israeli youngster's potential. Barcelona's sports newspaper Marca highlighted Goren's progress, noting his participation in the first-team preseason preparations, including the Joan Gamper Trophy match.
The Israeli midfielder has also proven his worth for Barcelona's reserve team, Barça Atlètic, where he has become a key player and a regular starter. This call-up to the first team represents another significant step in Goren's development. The Catalan sports newspaper Sport reported on Sunday that the 17-year-old has successfully won over Flick, emphasizing the growing attention surrounding the Israeli prospect.
Goren's achievement echoes that of previous Israeli player Gai Assulin, who appeared for Barcelona in the Copa del Rey but never played in a La Liga match. Additionally, Alex Campos, another young player, has been given his first league call-up and received his first match call-up for Barcelona. Barcelona will face Real Madrid without several injured players, including Dani Olmo, Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Roony Bardghji.
