De Zerbi hails ‘complete’ Tottenham after historic win at Chelsea
'They deserved this win, they prepared very well,' said the Tottenham head coach.
On October 25, Tottenham secured a historic win against London rivals Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, ending an eight-year jinx. Roberto De Zerbi, the Tottenham manager, highlighted the team's newfound winning mentality, marking their second victory at the Bridge in 36 years, with the last triumph occurring in 2018. The match featured a comical own goal by Chelsea's goalkeeper Mike Penders, as well as a late goal from Mathys Tel, following Cole Palmer's red card for Chelsea.
De Zerbi praised his team's improved mentality and relationships, stating they had worked hard to improve on the pitch. The victory came after a dismal start to the season for Tottenham, who had gone six league games without a win, raising concerns about potential relegation. The win was a boost for the team's morale, with De Zerbi emphasizing the importance of the team's spirit and cohesion.
Chelsea's manager, Xabi Alonso, expressed disappointment with the result, stating that the team was not at their best level. Alonso refused to single out Penders and Palmer for their roles in the defeat, emphasizing that the team needed to move on.
