BOA intervention boosts ginger farming in Kaduna

The Bank of Agriculture (BOA) has taken steps to revive ginger farming in Kaduna State by intervening in the sector following a devastating ginger blight. The intervention has reached approximately 3,400 farmers across 15 clusters, offering ginger planting materials and agricultural extension services. Bank Managing Director, Ayodeji Sotinrin, visited ginger farms in Kachia Local Government Area to inspect mature crops and harvested ginger.

He believes the initiative will increase ginger production to three million tonnes within five years, generating $3 billion in economic value and providing farmers with earnings of N70 to N80 million per hectare. BOA is also providing financing at a nine percent interest rate, aligning with the Federal Government's directive to make agricultural credit more affordable.

The bank is working with the Federal Government on interventions across other agricultural value chains to enhance farmers' earnings and strengthen food production.
