Big weddings put pressure on marriages, says actress Ruth Kadiri

Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has warned against the pressure big weddings can put on marriages. Kadiri stated that the expectations surrounding such ceremonies can cause emotional and mental strain on couples, with some even experiencing fear and uncertainty in their relationships after their weddings. Speaking in a video shared by Pulse, Kadiri questioned why some couples who had been together happily for years started fearing the future after their big weddings.

She urged young couples to focus on their relationship rather than societal expectations, suggesting that they should consider simpler arrangements with a small guest list and private celebrations with family and friends. Kadiri also cautioned against the undue pressure couples face from attending multiple ceremonies and from societal scrutiny.

She called for a broader societal shift, urging parents, families, and society to allow young people to make personal decisions without excessive pressure, and not to measure success solely by wealth, career achievements, or meeting others’ expectations. Kadiri emphasized that a fulfilling life can mean simply being at home with one’s children and expressing love for them.
