Sultan Mizan’s brother passes away; Terengganu declares three-day mourning

The younger brother of Terengganu's Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin passed away at the age of 51 this morning at Gleneagles Hospital in Kuala Lumpur. Sultan Mizan's brother, Datuk Seri Dr Tengku Baderul Zaman, was the son of late Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah. His remains are currently being transported to Kuala Nerus, where they will be met by the Regent of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail.

The deceased will be received at Balai Islam, Istana Syarqiyyah, where final respects will be paid before the body is laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum. Sultan Mizan has declared a three-day period of mourning, beginning today. For Muslim men, this includes wearing a songkok wrapped with a thin white cloth. Non-Muslim men should don a songkok with a three-inch-wide black cloth band around the left sleeve and a black necktie.

Muslim women are to wear a white headscarf, while non-Muslim women should wear a black cloth band around the sleeve. Tahlil ceremonies will be held for three nights at the Balai Islam, commencing tonight.
