Saturday Night Live UK’s cold open parodied Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s recent appearance on Celebrity Gogglebox. In the sketch, George Fouracres played Burnham alongside Emma Sidi as Liverpool Mayor Steve Rotheram, with the segment using the appearance to review the week's television.
According to Discovered, Burnham defended his participation in the Channel 4 program after Kemi Badenoch suggested he was avoiding difficult work. Burnham stated he would make no apology for leading with lightness and noted he was proud to support the charity Stand Up To Cancer, which was highlighted in the episode. In a clip released ahead of the broadcast, Burnham was seen reacting emotionally to stories of cancer diagnoses.
