KARACHI: Rahimullah, a 40-year-old passer-by, was shot dead while attempting to protect a policeman's family from criminals near Sohrab Goth late Thursday night, police and a relative reported on Friday. According to the police, Rahimullah was killed when three robbers fired upon him as he tried to escape after committing a robbery near Shafiq Mor.
The police filed an FIR against three unidentified suspects based on a complaint made by Mohammed Danish Iqbal. Iqbal, a constable assigned to the investigation wing of the East police, lived in Ahsanabad. He informed the police that he had accompanied his family to a wedding near Sakhi Hasan Chowrangi when their car broke down near Shafiq Mor.
While the vehicle was being inspected, the robbers arrived on a motorcycle and stole purses and mobile phones from Iqbal and another relative. Meanwhile, Rahimullah approached the robbers, causing them to panic and open fire. The assailants then fled with the stolen valuables.
