The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended a suspect, Chima Ofoeke, in relation to the suspected murder of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area. The arrest came after the victim's mother reported her missing to the Divisional Police Officer in Umuchu Division, expressing concern as her daughter had not been seen since October 16, 2026.
Intelligence-led information led police operatives, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba security outfit, to arrest Ofoeke, who was identified as the deceased's alleged former boyfriend. During preliminary interrogation, Ofoeke reportedly confessed to killing Umeorini following the breakdown of their relationship, leading detectives to the location where her remains were discovered.
The police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a statement, urging the public to report suspicious activities to the authorities.
