JBL Bar 800MK2 review: awesome Atmos and surround sound in one package
I tested a JBL soundbar with battery powered detachable speakers, and it absolutely blew me away.
The JBL Bar 800MK2 is a mid-range soundbar offering surround sound through its main bar, detachable rear speakers, and powerful subwoofer. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, features a 7.1 channel configuration, and boasts a 780W maximum power output. During testing, the soundbar impressed with its expansive sound, powerful bass, and clear dialogue.
Virtual height effects were impressive, and dialogue remained clear throughout various movie scenes. The detachable rear speakers provided an ultra-expansive surround sound, and the system performed well with music as well. Despite lacking dedicated up-firing drivers and having a bulky subwoofer, the Bar 800MK2's versatility, wireless rear speakers, and strong feature set make it worth the price at £899 / AU$1,199.95.
