Huma Qureshi expressed her desire to portray complex characters in her upcoming roles, stating she prefers playing Kabir Singh rather than Preeti. She recounted a youthful incident when she boldly told Anurag Kashyap, "Sir, we still have a struggle ahead," after he had already cast her for Gangs of Wasseypur. Huma admitted to being quite naive at the time, lacking awareness of the appropriate manner to converse with film directors and casting agents compared to her peers at Delhi University.
Reflecting on the importance of artistic freedom, she emphasized the need to maintain personal liberty in choosing roles that are unconventional, ambiguous, or defy societal norms.
