I won taekwondo medal, wanted to play in WNBA – Kaffy

Dr Kafayat Shafau, also known as Kaffy, shares her fascinating journey from a National Stadium aerobics class to becoming a pioneering dancer, choreographer, and fitness coach. She began dancing as a child, but it wasn't until her weight loss journey led her to aerobics classes at the National Stadium that she discovered her love for teaching dance.

Kaffy's path to success was not an easy one, especially when it came to pursuing her passion in the face of societal stigma. Her family, like many in Africa, did not support her decision to follow a career in the creative industry. However, Kaffy's academic background, business acumen and dedication to her craft eventually helped her gain recognition and become the highest-paid dance instructor in the industry.

One of Kaffy's most memorable projects was winning the Guinness World Record, but she credits other achievements such as leading a band to victory at the Calabar Carnival and receiving the Headies Special Recognition Award as equally significant. Growing up, Kaffy participated in various sports including taekwondo, basketball, and football, which instilled in her a strong work ethic and discipline that she carries with her today.

If given the chance, Kaffy would have loved to pursue a sports career, particularly in basketball or taekwondo. She credits her love for sports for shaping her mentality towards life and her determination to overcome challenges. Kaffy's favorite sports figures include Nigerian football legend Jay-Jay Okocha and the Brazilian superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who she admires for their work ethic, commitment, and all-around athletic abilities.
