Fennville earns historic win with sensational touchdown pass from nose tackle

Fennville's senior football team achieved a historic victory on October 23, 2022, with a sensational touchdown pass from nose tackle Omar Martinez. Coach Wendell Hughes made the decision to start an all-senior lineup, a move that led to an unforgettable game. Martinez, who lined up at quarterback, rushed for 30 yards on a crucial first down.

The real highlight came later when Martinez took over at quarterback and threw a 47-yard touchdown pass to senior receiver Jesse Bernard, sealing the 42-22 win over Marcellus. Martinez expressed his excitement, saying, "It means a lot to us to finish with a win on senior night. I am so surprised it worked that well. The guys blocked really well to make it happen.

I'll never forget this." Senior Ashton Happy Senters echoed the sentiment, stating, "It is unexplainable how much this means. We couldn't end on a better note." The game, a culmination of Fennville's back-to-back winning seasons since 2017-18, marked the end of their playoff eligibility due to the school's 8-person football division. Hughes expressed disappointment but acknowledged the team's success.
