Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has advised midfielder Michael Carrick to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson's approach of giving Cristiano Ronaldo breaks, in an effort to help Bruno Fernandes recover after a grueling season and the World Cup. Rooney made the comments after Fernandes expressed criticism of Carrick's tactics following United's 4-1 Champions League loss to Como.
Speaking to The United Stand, Rooney suggested that Fernandes might benefit from a brief respite. The former England international recalled Ferguson's habit of occasionally giving the Portugal forward time off to recharge his batteries. Rooney believes Fernandes could particularly use this kind of treatment, given his extended season and the recent World Cup.
