Drunk driver crashes into DBKL road crew, killing supervisor on Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 24 — A tragic accident claimed the life of a road maintenance supervisor and left a lorry driver injured, following a suspected drunk driver's crash on Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar. The 26-year-old driver was found to have a breath alcohol level of 64mg/100ml, according to the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department chief.

The suspect was taken into custody and held for three days to aid in the investigation. The crash took place around 5.00am as the vehicle, en route from Jalan Damansara to Jalan Parlimen, lost control and collided with two workers in the left lane. The supervisor was pronounced dead upon receiving medical treatment, while the lorry driver sustained injuries to his head and right hand, requiring treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

The lorry driver is currently recovering. The car driver remained unharmed. The five workers, including the supervisor, a lorry driver, and three Bangladeshi workers, were engaged in installing warning signs under a Kuala Lumpur City Hall contract. The work commenced at 11pm on Oct 23 and concluded at 4am today. The incident is being probed under Sections 44(1)(b) and 44(1A)(b) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which pertain to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs resulting in death and injury.

Police have appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash to reach out to the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or visit the closest police station.
