Yankees linked to offseason trade for Brewers' 18-HR All-Star
The Yankees could be looking for a new catcher.
The New York Yankees are reportedly in talks for a potential trade with the Milwaukee Brewers to acquire outfielder William Contreras. Contreras, an 18-home run All-Star, is one of the best hitting catchers in baseball, with a .270/.341/.417 batting average, 18 home runs, and a .758 OPS in 147 regular season games. He is heavily desired by the Yankees, who are looking to bolster their lineup after a postseason disappointment.
Their current catcher, Austin Wells, is a solid defender but struggles at the plate, hitting only .186/.292/.332 with 14 homers and a .624 OPS. The Yankees may have to send a Major League-ready pitcher and some prospects to secure Contreras, but the trade could provide a significant upgrade to their team. Contreras, a three-time All-Star, is one year away from free agency, making him a valuable asset for the Yankees.
