The 21st October saw the Lion Cup tournament at El Plantio, sponsored by Lion Building Services and John Fairbrass. Twenty-three golfers participated in the singles full handicap Stableford format, divided into two groups. The caddy master and his team welcomed participants, noting the fair condition of the course due to torrential storms causing flooding a few days prior. Pleasant weather with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius featured blue skies.
Michael O’Keeffe emerged victorious in Group A with 40 points, closely followed by Joe Bell with 39 points and John Fairbrass with 37 points. Group B saw Lee George taking the top spot with 39 points, Nick Chambers with 37 points, and John Fairbrass securing third place. Six players tied for the nearest the pin honors, with achievements in holes 1, 4, and 18 for Group A and 2, 7, and 16 for Group B. "Sir" Ronnie King led the best front nine with 19 points, while Andy Godfrey claimed the best back nine with 20 points. The two’s pot was won by Joe Bell on hole 14, earning him €60.00.
A quarter-final singles match play knockout was held, where Steve Burns won 5 & 3 against Gary Hill. John Fairbrass and his company Lion Building Services generously provided all prizes. Kellie, Katie, and the Sheerin’s staff delivered exceptional hospitality. The football card was won by Kellie, with Sheffield Wednesday, earning her €40 and raising €40 for their charities in 2026.
The event was captured in a photo, showing John Fairbrass presenting the Lion Cup to Michael O’Keeffe. For more information, visit www.sheerinsgolfsociety.com or email sheerinsgolfsociety@gmail.com.
