Police arrest three suspects over farm theft in Yobe

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended three individuals implicated in a farm equipment theft case. The suspects are linked to alleged conspiracy, theft, and possession of stolen property. The equipment stolen includes two water pump generators and 10 solar panels. The arrest took place in the Duhuwu Nima farm area located within Bursari Local Government Area of the state.

ASP Yusuf Adamu Aliyu, the Police Public Relations Officer, announced this in a statement issued on Friday. They were alerted by a distress call on October 21, 2026, claiming that Musa Mohammed, a 40-year-old resident of Garin Alkali town, was apprehended by others near Tarabutu Village. Upon receiving the report, detectives swiftly moved to apprehend Mohammed.

Preliminary investigations revealed his involvement in a conspiracy with two other suspects, Mohammed Baki from Gashua and Haruna Wakil Sano, known as Kogi. These individuals were allegedly planning to steal farm equipment from nearby farms. The suspects allegedly sold the stolen items to Adamu Abubakar from Bade Local Government Area.

Following this information, detectives traced and arrested the receiver. A search of his residence yielded two water pump generators, discharge and suction hoses, two gas cylinders, and 10 solar panels, believed to be stolen. Kogi was arrested during a subsequent operation on October 22 and also admitted to his involvement. The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, praised the officers involved in the operation for recovering the stolen property and making the arrests.

He urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station. The police emphasized their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while warning against criminal activities like agricultural equipment theft, which can severely impact farmers' livelihoods and productivity. They also encouraged the public to provide timely and reliable information to aid in crime prevention and detection.
