Galaxies SIG Seminar, 2 Nov 2026

The Galaxies Science Interest Group (SIG) Seminar is scheduled for November 2, 2026, at 1:00 PM ET, virtually. The event, titled "Roman eXtreme Deep Field (RXDF): What It is and What It Will Do," will be led by Haojing Yan. The RXDF program has been allocated 386.41 hours in Cycle 1-2 of the Roman Space Telescope. This program aims to conduct extremely deep imaging in an area near the North Ecliptic Pole (NEP), with a size 140 times larger than the Hubble eXtreme Deep Field (HXDF).

The RXDF will have minimal impact from cosmic variance and will be ideal for clustering analysis of rare objects, such as galaxies and AGNs at high redshift (z > 10). The observations will be divided into three major epochs, each separated by approximately one year and further divided into three sub-epochs spaced 10-12 days apart.

The RXDF will enable studies of various celestial objects, including supernovae at z > 2.5, first-star supernovae, and more.
