Senate President Godswill Akpabio has cautioned political parties against denying experienced lawmakers the opportunity to contest for re-election, warning that doing so could impair the National Assembly's effectiveness and democratic governance. Akpabio emphasized that the Senate should be valued as an institution for its institutional knowledge and contributions to lawmaking, rather than being seen as a platform for political patronage.
He advocated for prioritizing competence, experience, and commitment to national development when selecting candidates for future elections, urging political parties to reconsider their decisions and recognize the value of retaining experienced lawmakers.
