A ‘Fallout’ Competition Series Is Coming to Prime Video

Prime Video has revealed a new reality competition series titled Fallout Shelter: The Experiment, inspired by Bethesda Game Studios' popular video game franchise Fallout and Amazon's sci-fi drama. The 10-episode season will premiere on January 13, 2027, with the first four episodes airing that day, followed by weekly releases through January 27.

The show will challenge everyday participants to survive in Vault-Tec's bomb-proof vault shelters, navigating high-stakes drills, psychological trials, and morally challenging situations to ultimately win a $1 million grand prize.

The timing of the announcement holds special significance for Fallout fans, as October 23, 2077, is known as Fallout Day in the game's fictional world. This day marks the beginning of the Great War that turned America into a radioactive wasteland. Fallout Shelter: The Experiment aligns with the growing trend of competition shows based on established genre properties, including Netflix's Squid Game: The Challenge and Wonka's Golden Ticket.

In addition to the competition series, Bethesda has organized global partnerships to celebrate the day. These include a Fallout-themed exhibit at the National Atomic Testing Museum in Las Vegas and the return of the Fallout Cafe to Tokyo's Tower Records. The game studio has also teamed up with Jones Soda for Project T.W.I.S.T. (Taste-Worthiness Initiative for Shelter Transition), inviting fans to help choose the flavor for Nuka Twist, which will be revealed in-game.

The release of Fallout Shelter: The Experiment marks the 30th anniversary of the Fallout franchise, which debuted on October 10, 1997. With the show's success and the upcoming third season, it seems the Fallout universe will continue to expand and captivate audiences in the coming years.
