Telegram-based prostitution, human trafficking syndicate raking in RM5.4mil a year busted
KUALA LUMPUR: An organised crime group which have raked in up to RM5.4 million a year from prostitution and human trafficking used a Telegram channel to advertise its services, with an estimated 100 customers daily.
Federal authorities have dismantled a criminal network that made up to RM5.4 million annually through prostitution and human trafficking, according to Datuk M Kumar, director of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department. The syndicate, known as Geng Yunaa, operated a Telegram channel, KLSELANGORFL, advertising its sex workers, who were charged between RM200 and RM350 per encounter.
They served an estimated 100 customers daily, primarily teenagers, foreigners, and underage children, while the rest of the money went to the sex workers. Police conducted Op Angel, an operation across the Klang Valley from September 24 to 26, arresting seven suspects, including the 30-year-old leader, for their roles in the criminal enterprise.
The group had been active since early 2024, preying on vulnerable individuals for financial gain. During the operation, officers seized 14 mobile phones, 33 boxes of condoms, six boxes of contraceptive medication, towels, and lubricant gel. The suspects have prior criminal records, some involving prostitution, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and fraud.
All seven suspects detained are being held under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 until October 23, and nine others will face charges for being members of an organised crime group, facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
