Seagate's IronWolf 8TB NAS drive is a 4-star HDD — it's on sale at Best Buy, but buy it from Newegg now to save even more

Seagate IronWolf 8TB NAS drive receives 4-star rating after rigorous testing. Currently, the 8TB IronWolf is available for $330 at Newegg, a substantial discount compared to $350 at Best Buy and $480 originally advertised. Designed for continuous 24/7 operation in multi-drive systems, this 7200 RPM HDD boasts a 256MB cache, CMR recording technology, and SATA 6.0Gb/s connectivity.

Tested with a workload rating of up to 180TB annually, it offers a 1 million-hour mean time between failures (MTBF). However, its high-performance characteristics might not appeal to those prioritizing quiet operation or low power consumption. The drive comes with AgileArray firmware, dual-plane balancing, and rotational vibration sensors for optimal performance when used in RAID arrays.

Mark, our expert reviewer, praising the drive for its RAID performance optimization, reduced vibration, and efficient power management. The 8TB IronWolf NAS drive is highly recommended for those seeking a high-capacity drive for backup, media libraries, and shared files, particularly in multi-bay and RAID setups. Conversely, it may not be the best choice for users seeking additional storage for a standard desktop PC, given its specialized features primarily suited for NAS environments.
