NDC suspends Daniel Nortey from media appearances over Obuasi SHTS abuse comments

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has put an end to Daniel Nortey's participation in any media appearances or public engagements on behalf of the party, following controversial statements he made about allegations of sexual abuse targeting the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School. This suspension went into effect immediately and will remain in place until further notice, as per a statement released by the party’s Communication Directorate.

The directorate expressed strong disapproval of Nortey's remarks concerning the allegations, highlighting the party’s strict zero-tolerance policy towards sexual abuse and any form of sexual exploitation, especially when it concerns the safety and well-being of children. The NDC firmly condemned any attempts to diminish the gravity of such allegations or play down their severity.

Despite Nortey’s public apology, the party insisted on the necessity of responsible public discourse, particularly when discussing sensitive issues related to sexual abuse allegations.

The directive to suspend Nortey aimed to emphasize the significance of responsible communication when it comes to matters concerning the welfare and dignity of women and children. The NDC reasserted its dedication to safeguarding women and children, advocating for accountability, and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are treated with the utmost seriousness and in line with legal procedures.
