Moderna se desploma un 24% tras filtraciones no verificadas sobre su vacuna contra el melanoma

Moderna's shares plunged by 24% after unverified leaks surfaced on social media regarding its melanoma vaccine developed in collaboration with Merck, also known as MSD in Spain and Latin America. The biotech company's stock fell to $187.60 from its previous closing price of $245.81, a decline of 23.7%. Initial reports on X suggested the vaccine had failed to meet expectations, claiming a 42% reduction in melanoma recurrence or death.

However, the link provided by the user proved inactive, as reported by Bloomberg. A previous study, while not directly comparable to these new findings, showed that the drug reduced the risk of recurrence or death by 49%, with a 59% decrease in metastasis or death risk. In August, both companies saw a surge on the stock market after announcing positive preliminary results from their clinical trial, demonstrating a reduction in disease recurrence and an increase in metastasis development.

Moderna even saw a 150% increase in shares. The two pharmaceutical companies combined an RNA therapy with a drug already on the market by Merck, Keytruda, to develop this new therapy, which represents the first positive Phase 3 trial result for personalized neoantigen therapy and an RNA-based oncology treatment.
