Navi Mumbai, October 22 - Chaitali Prashant Tandel, 23, and her husband Prashant Ravindra Tandel, 36, were found dead in a gorge in Khalapur on Thursday, a day after they went missing. The couple had been on their way back from visiting the Ekvira Devi temple when they vanished. Their bodies and their scooter were discovered in thick bushes near Saymal village turn in Khalapur taluka, Raigad district.
Chaitali and Prashant had left Lonavala around 10:30 am on October 21 after attending the temple. Family members began searching for them when they didn't return. They shared their last known mobile phone location with the police, who launched a search operation. The couple's bodies were found at the accident site on Thursday.
According to police, Prashant was riding the scooter while Chaitali sat behind him when the vehicle reportedly malfunctioned near the Saymal village turn on the Mumbai-Pune highway. Prashant lost control, causing the scooter to skid off the road and plunge into the gorge. Both victims suffered severe injuries and were rushed to Khopoli municipal hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival. The complaint was filed by Chaitali's sister, Lina Waghmare, a nurse from Karanjade, Panvel.
Khopoli police registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and are currently investigating the incident.
