Kyiv's Chernihivska metro station partially reopens

Chernihivska metro station in Kyiv will partially resume operations on Friday, October 23, Kyiv City State Administration reported.

Russian missiles and drones struck Kyiv overnight on October 22nd, killing one person and injuring 24, according to the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office. The damage was widespread, affecting six of the city’s districts, the city military administration reported. The attack occurred hours after Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said that Russia was "in principle" ready to resume three-way talks with the US and Ukraine in mid-November.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy interpreted the overnight attack as evidence that Russia's stance had not changed.

Three days prior, Russian drones had killed two people in a 24-story Kyiv apartment block. On the night of October 22nd, Russia launched 21 ballistic missiles at Kyiv in three waves, the first around 22:00, followed by others at around 02:00 and 03:30. Russian strikes in the Dniprovskyi district, on the city’s left bank, resulted in the death of a 48-year-old man and injuries to six people, including four children aged five or younger.

Among the injured, five are minors and two are young children, with acute stress reactions reported among them. A 16-year-old boy suffered a closed head injury and was hospitalized.

The attack damaged infrastructure across Kyiv, including eight apartment buildings, a building-supply hypermarket, a restaurant, a monastery building, a post office, and office premises. It also damaged an ambulance station and six ambulances in Pecherskyi district, prompting Mayor Vitali Klitschko to close the Pivdennyi (Southern) Bridge.

Kyiv Metro reported that the green-line trains would operate in two sections, Syrets–Vydubychi and Osokorky–Chervonyi Khutir, with inspections and repairs to follow. The city administration added buses to routes 22 and 91, and closed traffic across the bridge toward the left bank.
