Incheon stabbing suspect tests negative for psychopathy

Incheon police have revealed that the suspect behind last week's stabbing spree tested negative for psychopathy, according to a report on Thursday. The 59-year-old individual, Choi Choong-rak, underwent a psychopathy assessment by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, but his score remained below the required threshold of 25 out of 40 points to be classified as a psychopath.

Choi faces charges for attempting to murder 10 people at a commercial complex in Incheon, located west of Seoul, on October 13th. Equipped with two knives, Choi allegedly targeted vulnerable individuals, resulting in eight injuries, including one person who suffered cardiac arrest and remained unconscious following the attack. Two others managed to escape unharmed.

During interrogations, Choi claimed that his actions were driven by anger stemming from medical treatment received at a local hospital. He also stated that he did not target specific individuals, but rather focused on those who appeared weaker than himself. Choi possesses a criminal history with ten prior convictions, including two instances of attempted murder.

Police are currently scrutinizing evidence and conducting additional investigations to ascertain his motive and evaluate whether the incident was planned in advance.
