Fünfte Auflage: Neuauflage des BMW X5 startet zum Jahresende für 94.800 Euro

The fifth generation of the BMW X5 is set to launch at the end of the year, priced starting at 94,800 Euros. This new generation of the SUV will offer more drive options than ever before, according to the manufacturer. After the petrol and diesel engines with mild-hybrid kicked off the launch, early in the new year a plug-in-hybrid and for the first time an all-electric version will follow, before hydrogen fuel cell is likely to complete the quintet the following year.

While this hydrogen-powered variant is expected to have a range of around 750 kilometers and handle cornering like a petrol car, it comes close to the new electric variant in performance. The electric BMW is expected to cover around 802 kilometers. Its battery has a capacity of 141 kWh, allowing it to charge up to 460 kW. This would provide 350 kilometers of power in the best case scenario, and 23 minutes to go from 10 to 80 percent.

Otherwise, the iX5 60 xDrive will be agile: its two motors generate 425 kW/578 PS, accelerating the almost three-tonne competitor to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and enabling top speeds of up to 210 km/h. Those who prefer a petrol engine will get the X5 with a three-liter six-cylinder diesel producing 210 kW/286 PS or a petrol engine with 294 kW/400 PS.

For those who can't make up their minds, they can order one of the two plug-in hybrids, which have up to 450 kW/612 PS and offer at most 102 kilometers of electric range. Thus, the interior and design of the X5 will change. Besides the drive option selection, it is primarily the display concept that will differentiate it from its predecessor: As all models of the so-called New Class, the X5 now has a display band across the entire front of the windshield, a slanted central display, and a new steering wheel with horizontally placed spokes and sensor buttons.

The body design, on the other hand, is only slightly modified, and changes in dimensions are minimal: the X5 only grows a few centimeters and stretches to 4.99 meters in length.
