Eight injured as passenger boat hits pontoon at Bangkok’s Sathorn pier

Bangkok – Twelve individuals, comprising five foreign nationals, were injured when a two-deck tourist boat collided with a pier in Bangkok on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place around 13:10 on October 22 at Sathorn Pier in Yan Nawa subdistrict, Sathorn district. The vessel, identified as Riva Express 2, sustained damage to its front-right side.

Rescue personnel attended to the injured on site before transporting them to Samitivej Chinatown Hospital. The casualties sustained abrasions to their arms and legs. Boat operator Arun Siriprom, 62, informed officials that the boat experienced a mechanical issue while transporting tourists to the pier, thereby rendering him unable to manage the rudder.

Consequently, the boat crashed into the pier, causing damage to its stainless-steel railing. Several passengers who were not securely holding onto the railing fell and sustained injuries, according to Siriprom.
