On Wednesday evening, armed kidnappers stormed the residence of Mr Arome Adaji, the All Progressives Congress Youth Leader of Ogbabede Ward in Abocho District, Kogi State, and his wife, Mrs Justina Arome, along Ajegwuna Road in Abocho. The assailants fired indiscriminately as they entered the street, prompting residents to flee for safety.

Community member Ndamodu recounted that the couple was at home relaxing when the gunfire erupted, causing residents to remain indoors out of fear of crossfire or stray bullets. It was only after the kidnappers departed that the neighborhood emerged to discover the couple's abduction. According to Abocho District leader Surveyor Agono Eneogba, armed men have increasingly targeted residential areas, farms, and farm settlements in Kogi East, shifting their focus from roads.

He noted that security forces, vigilantes, and local hunters have been monitoring roads, but the armed groups have concentrated their attacks on residences and farms, leading to a surge in abductions. A recent incident involved the abduction of a mother and her four children after a burial ceremony, who were later released following a ransom payment.

When reached for comment on the latest incident, Kogi State Police Command spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat merely acknowledged the report.
