Senator Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), have recently exchanged words over a campaign inauguration plan. The APC chieftain referred to the activist as a "skit maker" and "comedian", questioning Sowore's political relevance.
The AAC had requested the inauguration of its presidential campaign council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, asking for food, drinks and logistical support for the event on November 11, 2026. Basiru argued that Sowore should first gain electoral strength at the state level before being taken seriously. Sowore, in response, recalled their shared history during their student activism against military dictatorship in the 1990s, and accused Basiru of abandoning principles they once upheld.
