Why Mbappé should win Ballon d’Or – Courtois

Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper for Real Madrid, has endorsed Kylian Mbappé as his preferred candidate for the Ballon d'Or. Courtois, speaking to DAZN, asserted that no player demonstrated superior individual performance throughout the year compared to Mbappé. However, he acknowledged Mbappé's lack of major trophies as a potential hurdle in his quest for the prestigious individual football award.

Courtois drew parallels between Mbappé's campaign and that of Barcelona's Lamine Yamal. While Yamal's World Cup performance was less impressive than Mbappé's, Yamal did secure the league title and won trophies, which could bolster his claim for the Ballon d'Or. "Lamine Yamal had a worse World Cup than Mbappé, but he won the title and won the league," Courtois remarked.

This stance underscores the ongoing discourse about whether individual performances or team successes should hold more significance in determining the Ballon d'Or winner. Mbappé has solidified his position as a prominent figure in global football, while Yamal continues to garner attention for his contributions to Barcelona and Spain. The Ballon d'Or acknowledges the outstanding individual footballer of the year, considering various aspects including performances, achievements, and overall impact.
