Which LeBron James adjustment helped 76ers stop Karl-Anthony Towns-Jalen Brunson pick-and-roll

The Philadelphia 76ers' defensive adjustment played a crucial role in their 106-100 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Head coach Nick Nurse credited LeBron James for this change in strategy. Nurse explained that placing James on Karl-Anthony Towns in the second half provided the Sixers with more defensive options against New York's signature pick-and-roll action involving Towns and Jalen Brunson.

Nurse admitted the adjustment was not flawless initially, but he credited Josh Hart for making the strategy effective right away. The numbers confirmed Nurse's assessment, as the Sixers outscored the Knicks 52-42 in the second half. LeBron James was central to this turnaround, converting two layups in quick succession early in the third quarter after Towns turned the ball over consecutively.

James then set up Jaylen Brown for a game-tying three-pointer to close the period with Philadelphia leading 83-76. Jalen Brunson, the Knicks' engine, struggled from the field, scoring just 6 of 19 shots. Towns, battling early foul trouble, finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds. LeBron James, making his debut with the 76ers, finished with 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

This win marked the first time James had lost his debut game with a new franchise. The 76ers return to host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night.
