Ukraine war: Putin talks to Trump envoy Witkoff about Ukraine war
US negotiator Witkoff and Kremlin chief Putin discuss new proposals for a solution in the Ukraine war for about three hours. To the delight of US President Trump, an American is also released.
US envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg to discuss a potential end to the Russian war in Ukraine. Putin released a US citizen, 70-year-old Stephen Hubbard, who was convicted of fighting alongside Ukrainian forces against Russian troops. US President Donald Trump praised the release, saying no concessions were made in exchange.
Witkoff expressed hope for renewed talks between Russia and Ukraine, facilitated by the US, and said there was momentum for a peaceful resolution. The Kremlin stated that Russia is reviewing Witkoff's proposals, but that Ukraine needs to take steps towards peace.
