Doha, Qatar - The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is distributing school bags to underprivileged students in Syria as part of its Back-to-School #MakeStudentsHappy 2026 campaign. In collaboration with the Syrian Arab Red Crescent Society (SARCS), QRCS aims to support education for children in vulnerable environments by providing essential school supplies, thus easing financial burdens associated with acquiring necessary materials.
The initiative began in the Houla region of Homs, with plans to distribute approximately 8,200 school bags. To date, nearly 3,500 bags have been distributed, with distribution efforts actively ongoing to meet the target soon. Each bag contains various school supplies, such as notebooks, pens, stationery, and other necessary items for students to study and attend school normally.
QRCS plans to expand distributions to southern Al-Hasakah and northern Deir Al-Zor in the coming weeks, adding another 8,200 school bags. This expansion will further aid more students in pursuing their education and building a better future.
The Back-to-School 2026 fundraising campaign is committed to supporting education services in numerous countries, with a total cost exceeding QR12 million. The program encompasses support for poor students, provision of school bags and stationery, school maintenance and furnishing, and scholarships for certain university majors. In addition to Qatar, the education-focused interventions will extend to eight other countries, including Palestine (Gaza), Jordan, Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Niger.
