Abu Dhabi welcomed Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Wednesday for a working visit, marking the beginning of a high-level diplomatic engagement between the two nations. The ceremony featured a guard of honor, as both the UAE and Singapore's national anthems were played during the official reception. Attendees included Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, along with several other prominent members of the UAE leadership.
Following the reception, Mr. Wong met with the Crown Prince to discuss the longstanding ties between the two countries. The UAE and Singapore established diplomatic relations in 1985, and their relationship has since flourished across various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, security, and sustainable development. In February 2019, both governments signed the Singapore-UAE Comprehensive Partnership, a framework designed to bolster cooperation in key areas.
Currently, over 600 Singaporean companies operate in the UAE, contributing to sectors like fintech, healthcare, infrastructure, and education. In October 2024, Sheikh Khaled visited Singapore, where he held talks with Prime Minister Wong and signed several agreements aimed at strengthening ties, particularly in artificial intelligence, education, and renewable energy.
The visit also included discussions at the Singapore Parliament House to further cement the enduring bond between the two nations.
