Nvidia wants AI factories built in real factories

Nvidia is aiming to revolutionize the way AI capacity is built by introducing DSX POD, a reference design for shipping containers filled with computing power and networking components. The company demonstrated this innovative solution at its GTC Berlin conference, highlighting that DSX POD can be ready for deployment in as little as 14 days, significantly reducing the time traditionally required to install and wire up racks in conventional data centers.

Nvidia founder and CEO Jensen Huang explained that an AI factory generates value as soon as it starts producing tokens, rather than when construction is finished. Each DSX POD container houses seven Vera Rubin NVL72 racks, or 504 GPUs, and comes equipped with approximately 20 kilometers of cabling and 17 kilometers of preinstalled networking.

What sets DSX POD apart is its water-efficient cooling system, using dry coolers that operate at temperatures up to 45 degrees Celsius, potentially saving up to 54 million liters of water per day when compared to traditional cooling towers. While Nvidia's DSX POD containers are designed to be adapted to various climates, additional chillers may be necessary on the hottest days.

As part of the DSX POD initiative, Nvidia has partnered with 17 companies, including Armada, Bull, Dell, HPE, Schneider Electric, and Vertiv, to manufacture and deliver these containers globally starting in early 2027.
