Apple's iOS 27.2 update, set to launch next week, hints at an upcoming change to the Messages app. According to code within the update, users may soon be able to exclude muted conversations from the unread badge count. Aaron Perris shared this discovery on X, expressing excitement about the potential feature. The author, who keeps some group chats muted to avoid constant notifications, finds the current unread badge for muted group chats bothersome.
Even though the feature may not be included in iOS 27.2, the author hopes Apple will offer it soon. The potential addition of this option to Messages could be welcomed by users, and readers are encouraged to share their thoughts in the comments.
