Goal, assist... goal-kick - Kane underlines Ballon d'Or credentials
Why Declan Rice backs his England team-mate Harry Kane to win the Ballon d'Or after Arsenal's draw with Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Harry Kane, the England captain, is poised to make history at the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The 33-year-old frontman's astonishing goal tally of 73 last season has not only earned him the Müller Trophy for the second time but also places him in a unique position to potentially win the prestigious individual award for the first time in his career.
Should he emerge victorious, Kane would become the second player to achieve this feat, joining Robert Lewandowski, who accomplished the same double with Bayern Munich. Additionally, Kane would join an exclusive club of only four Bayern Munich players to win the Ballon d’Or, following in the footsteps of Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Furthermore, Kane would become the fifth English player and seventh British player to lift the trophy, joining the ranks of legends such as Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. Of course, this will only happen if Kane manages to claim the Ballon d’Or, a feat that has been thwarted twice by Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in recent years due to extenuating circumstances.
However, if he does win, it would be the culmination of what he was looking for when he left Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich in 2023 – a pinnacle of personal achievement.
