1 person killed in attack on eastern Saudi airport, authorities say

A Saudi national lost their life in an attack on King Fahad International Airport in Dammam, located on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia near Bahrain and Qatar, according to the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and resulted in eight individuals sustaining injuries, who have since been transported to a nearby hospital. The airport also sustained material damages following the attack.

Flight-tracking service Flightradar24 reported on X that flights were diverted away from the airport the night of the incident. The King Fahad Airport had faced previous attacks as part of a series of Houthi missile and projectile strikes targeting major airports across Saudi Arabia. However, the Iranian-backed Houthis have not yet commented on this specific attack.

In response to the attack, the Saudi Coalition claimed they intercepted four drone assaults in the Eastern region. This development comes in the wake of two people losing their lives in an earlier attack on a Saudi oil facility on the same day. The victims of the oil facility attack were Nepali and Filipino nationals, while the injured were Pakistani and Indian nationals. The aftermath of the explosion also ignited a fire caused by falling debris at a contractor's site.
