Rivers: Fubara's factional Assembly Speaker finally joins Wike’s Rainbow Coalition

Following a protracted political dispute in Rivers State, the factional Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, has now joined forces with the Rainbow Coalition, a coalition of several political parties spearheaded by the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Daily Post reports that Oko-Jumbo emerged as the factional Speaker on May 8, 2024, after the political showdown between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the FCT Minister.

Oko-Jumbo had presided over sessions attended by around three lawmakers who backed him during the crisis. Subsequently, the lawmakers, whose seats were declared vacant during the turmoil, rejoined the Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Martins Amaewhule on Monday. Oko-Jumbo officially affiliated with the coalition on Tuesday, marking his alignment with Wike's political faction in Bonny Local Government Area of the state after a period of uncertainty.

Among the former supporters of Governor Fubara who have now embraced the coalition are several erstwhile loyalists, following the governor's public reintegration into what he termed his political family.
