Real Madrid’s rough Diomande starting to shine as Leipzig visit

Yan Diomande, a 19-year-old striker who joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig for a club record €140 million earlier this summer, is starting to showcase his immense potential. Diomande made his presence felt in LaLiga with a spectacular goal against Sevilla before facing Leipzig in the Champions League. Although Diomande has demonstrated flashes of brilliance, he has not yet solidified his status as a key player for Jose Mourinho.

The expensive acquisition aimed to bolster Real Madrid's attack after struggles with their existing lineup, which included Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior. However, Diomande's arrival has created a crowded attacking situation, and his impact on the team has been inconsistent so far. The Portuguese coach has acknowledged Diomande's growth and improvement but emphasized that significant work remains.

Diomande's first goal for Real Madrid came against Villarreal, securing a 1-0 victory. His recent performance against Sevilla, where he scored from long range and provided an assist, marks his best showing to date. Diomande has scored two goals and provided three assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. Coach Mourinho has faith in Diomande's potential, despite acknowledging that the young player requires further development.

Diomande's journey to Real Madrid was not without challenges. After leaving the Ivory Coast for an education in Florida, he faced rejection by MLS clubs and eventually made his senior debut with Leganes. In 10 games for Leganes, Diomande scored twice and helped the team reach the Champions League. The winger has since made a significant impact in the Bundesliga with Leipzig, netting 12 goals and providing eight assists, earning him rookie of the year honors.
