Lit Hub is Hiring a Senior Editor For a New Vertical

Literary Hub is seeking a Senior Editor to spearhead the creation of a new vertical focused on all genres of books, from children's literature to personal finance, set to launch in Spring 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to help build a publication from the ground up, working closely with senior staff to establish the editorial voice, standards, and workflows. The role demands exceptional organizational and communication skills, along with a passion for the subject matter.

Key responsibilities include developing the editorial strategy, standards, and workflows for a high-traffic, regularly updated vertical, managing an extensive editorial calendar with daily, weekly, and monthly features, commissioning contributions from a diverse range of experts, writing and editing articles and reviews, managing a team of assistant editors and freelance writers, and creating multiple weekly newsletters. Collaboration with editors from other Literary Hub sites will also be a significant part of the role.

Successful candidates should possess at least 4 years of combined experience in book publishing or media and online media, having managed people or freelancers. A strong understanding of online book culture and online publishing tools, such as CMS, newsletter platforms, and analytics, is essential. Experience in audience development, digital marketing, social media, and SEO is highly desirable. Familiarity with the publishing industry, particularly challenges related to discoverability, is also important.

While not mandatory, relationships with authors, critics, booksellers, or librarians can be beneficial. The position is based in New York City but offers remote work. The starting salary is $72-75k per year with health benefits, and the start date is set for December 1, 2026. Interested candidates should submit their resume and three brief pitches for timely book lists, emphasizing a compelling headline and potential titles, to jobs@lithub.com.
