Kyiv's damaged Cosmo Multimall reopens cinema, rink, and grocery store
Kyiv's damaged Cosmo Multimall shopping and entertainment center resumed operations on Oct. 20, welcoming patrons back to its bowling alley, Ultramarket supermarket, and multiplex cinema, mall co-owner Oleh Vyshnyakov confirmed to NV Business.
The Ultramarket hypermarket, which is part of the Cosmo Multimall shopping center in Kyiv, is set to return to normal operations starting October 20. Prior to this resumption, the management took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of customers. After a thorough inspection, specialists confirmed the mall's safety, and luckily, no one was injured.
Interestingly, Cosmo Multimall faced significant damage in a Russian attack on October 19. Blocks A and B of the mall took the brunt of the explosion, with the connecting walkway severely damaged. However, the bridge structure remained intact and did not collapse. In its post, Cosmo Multimall highlighted that the walkway between the blocks is currently closed, and shoppers will need to navigate between the buildings via the open air.
Block C sustained minor damage, while the Kinoman cinema's screening room, Zviropolis petting zoo, and several shop windows, including those of Duna, Tommy Hilfiger, Roshen, and others, were also affected. Additionally, the CAO cafe in Block B suffered extensive destruction and will require complete reconstruction.
On a positive note, the Fifty Ice ice rink and the Ultramarket hypermarket itself were spared from the attack. Ultramarket, formerly known as MegaMarket, is a hypermarket chain owned by businessman Oleh Vyshniakov. The company currently operates four hypermarkets in the region.
