Kampar woman loses over RM129,000 in online job scam

In a recent case of online fraud, a 34-year-old woman from Kampar lost over RM129,000 after falling for what appeared to be a legitimate part-time job offer. According to Kampar District Police Chief Supt Mohamad Nazri Daud, the victim came across the job posting on social media and willingly provided her contact information to the purported employer. The fraudster then added the victim to a WhatsApp group for coordinating online hotel booking transactions.

The victim was informed that she needed to make payments to various bank accounts to complete the hotel bookings, with the promise that the capital would be returned to her along with a commission ranging from 10 to 20 percent. As she was enticed by the prospect of earning profits, the victim sent money to eight different accounts provided by the suspect.

Realizing she had been deceived when the promised capital and commission did not materialize, the victim suffered a loss of RM129,975.54. The case is currently under investigation by the police, who are examining the matter under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
